After completing his secondary education at the Sint Janslyceum in 's-Hertogenbosch, Peter de Bruijn (1957) first went to the School voor Hoger Economisch en Administratief Onderwijs (HEAO) in Utrecht and later to Tilburg University. During the final year of his law study he worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Law, where his instructions were to put together the programme for the civil law course for doctoral students.

Following his graduation in May 1986, Peter became a lawyer at what was then Van Leeuwen en Noordijk in 's-Hertogenbosch, the current Holla Advocaten. He became a partner in 1994. Since 1994 he is also a deputy judge at the district court in 's-Hertogenbosch, in particular charged with hearing witnesses in civil law proceedings.

After having worked in the field of contract law (in particular leasing) and damage insurance law, Peter decided to take up mediation as this was becoming increasingly popular in the law of persons and family law. He has been specialised in this since 1994.

Peter’s main activities within the Law of Persons and Family Law department consist of giving advice and instituting proceedings with respect to divorce, matrimonial property, maintenance and parental rights of access issues. In future he also wants to start using his expertise in the field of mediation in conflicts in other areas of civil law.
