Gerard Bouwens (1951) was born in 's-Hertogenbosch. He completed his secondary education at the Sint Janslyceum in 's-Hertogenbosch. He graduated from Nijmegen University in 1975.

Gerard has been a lawyer since 1976. He has been a partner in the firm since 1981 (which was known as Holla Knitel and Mol at the time). He is based at the 's-Hertogenbosch Stationsplein office where he works for the following departments: Company Law, Labour Law and Real Estate Law (civil construction law).

In the Company Law department, Gerard’s activities mainly consist of giving advice to entrepreneurs on many aspects of company law whereby he among other things decides on the structure of the company and the establishment of contracts (among other things with customers, suppliers and collaborative agreements with other companies) in consultation with entrepreneurs. Gerard advises in disputes to avoid litigation and when this proves to be necessary institutes legal proceedings. He gives advice and counsel to the directors of the company also in relation to financing (he among other things followed the Financing and Securities course at Grotius in connection with this) and gives advice and counsel in relation to company takeovers.
