Nelleke Boelhouwer grew up in Tilburg. She completed her secondary education in 1989 and went on to study law at Leiden. During the final phase of her studies, Nelleke did her internship at Poelman Denneman Bruinsma Advocaten (the predecessor of Holla Advocaten), where she took up employment after graduating in June 1995.

Nelleke works for the Personal & Family Law department. Her main areas of focus are divorce issues, parental rights of access and maintenance problems, inheritance disputes, name changes, adoption and parental authority matters. Nelleke has been a divorce mediator since 2001 and successfully completed the personal & family law specialist course in 2002.

"This field of practice is all about people, and that's what makes it so fascinating to me. Each case is different, as each individual is unique. You have to find the best possible solution for each individual in each specific situation. There is no such thing as a standard solution, every case requires its own unique approach. If clients have children, they continue to be the parents of these children for the rest of their lives. In that case, good communication remains essential. Often, the solution lies not in seeking conflict with the other party, but in finding a solution that is acceptable to both sides. This also helps prevent many conflicts from occurring in the future. For this reason, mediation, whereby two parties sit around the same table together with a mediator, remains one of the best ways to settle the consequences of a divorce."
